One of the best ways to learn a second language is from a native speaker; everyone knows that. It’s good advice if you want to get the right pronunciation and learn practical usage. Nevertheless, some students feel unmotivated during the process or they may lose their desire to learn a new language in the first place.
I understand how hard it is. First, it’s difficult when you start out and have so much in front of you, second it can be hard to keep going and third, it can be tough to keep or find the motivation to finish, because properly learning a new language is a true commitment. I have been there as well. Here are a few tips to get you going that have helped me along the way in learning a new culture and the language; “Aquí vamos”.
4 Tips to Keep Yourself Motivated While Learning a Second Language
First of all, if you want to learn a new language, it’s a good idea to understand some of the culture. If you are in a beginner, intermediate, or advanced class, it’s always good to try to educate the ears by listening to the music and watching movies with subtitles.
Second, remember why you’re doing it. Examine your reasons. Some may be more powerful than others: that spark and desire you had when you started to learn, maybe you just need to pass a test, maybe it is for work or pleasure. Write down a list of reasons for pursuing the language, no matter what they are.
Third, an excellent tip is to take some private classes if you don’t feel comfortable in a classroom full of people. Be sure to take the class taught by a native speaker of the language. This will help you improve your pronunciation and ability to know the language better.
Fourth, go out and use it every chance you get. One of the best ways to practice a new language is traveling overseas where you will have to communicate in your new language. Ah! Believe me, you will have improved confidence in this new skill as you hear yourself talking. People are often very supportive when someone tries to cross the language and cultural barrier. It may be hard at first, but if you keep going and stay focused, the experience will be rewarding and lead to much more than you expected.
Always remember that it is awesome to speak a second language, it opens new doors and you can meet a lot of new friends, and create professional opportunities, especially with Spanish.
