Spanish Institute teaches through a fun and interactive approach and utilizes its own custom designed curriculum that focuses on four main skills that are crucial when learning a second language: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Beginner 1

This course is for absolute beginners.  The curriculum focuses on:

  • The Alphabet and phonics
  • Greetings
  • Numbers
  • Date/ Time
  • Regular & Irregular verbs
  • How to use the “to be” verbs
  • Vocabulary to cover everyday life
 

Beginner 2

Students at this level have a simple base of vocabulary and conversational grammar, but still need to learn how to structure their sentences. Students will learn:

  • Weather
  • The verb “haber”
  • How to talk about daily activities
  • Hispanic culture
  • Direct and indirect objects
  • Latin American history
  • Vocabulary to cover professions, fruits and vegetables, and common activities
 

Beginner 3

Upon completion of this course students will be able to establish and maintain a simple conversation in the present tense. At this level students will further their understanding of and learn about:

  • The “to be” verbs
  • Reflexive verbs
  • The use of direct and indirect objects
  • Vocabulary to cover doctor’s office visits, health, body parts, food, events and pastimes
 

Intermediate 1

Upon completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Express wants & desires
  • Converse in the present tense
  • Describe actions they do to themselves or to someone else
  • Start communicating in the Past Tense
  • Explore the differences of the Preterite and the Imperfect forms
  • Use vocabulary to cover restaurants, airports, visits and department stores
 

Intermediate 2

At this level students will further their understanding of:

  • The past tense
  • Relative pronouns
  • Formal and informal commands

Upon completion students will be able to:

  • Distinguish and use the different past tense verb forms
  • Give casual and formal commands
  • Use vocabulary to cover finances, sports, and the kitchen
 

Intermediate 3

This course is for students familiar with the topics covered in the Beginner levels & Intermediate 1 & 2.  At this level students will further their understanding of:

  • Formal commands
  • The subjunctive mood
  • The prepositions: Por & Para
  • The future tense

Upon completion of this course students will be able to:

  • Establish and maintain a conversation in the present, past and future tense
  • Distinguish and use the prepositions Por/ Para
  • Express wishes and desires thorough the subjunctive mood

Advanced Reading and Conversation Group

This class is geared to  those students that would like to practice and polish its oral communication skill. It is a conversation orientated group in which students will practice and strengthen the grammar topics covered in all previous levels through the discussion of short stories, poems, and other readings. Students should be able to converse in the past, present and future tenses, as the goal is to interpret and communicate thoughts in a fluent manner.
